Destiny 2 Rage

The outrage started when players first discovered players who played longer and similar events they would earn less XP. You would earn XP for bright engrams after hitting the level cap. For example repeating public events would yield the same number of XP but the bar itself would go up slower. They announced a change to their XP system to stop the throttling but all they did was double the amount of XP it takes to level.

Destiny 2 Updates

In a dev blog update the Destiny team has indicated changes are coming to Destiny 2. Such changes are going to be a new tier of weapons, private pvp matches, and better rewards for Strikes, Adventures, and Lost Sectors. Some changes are coming December 5th, others are coming December 12th, and the rest is later in January.

The new tier of weapons are called Masterwork weapons. “stat trackers, random, re-rollable stat bonuses, unique item tooltips, and item details screens.” These will be elite versions of legendary weapons. You can upgrade current legendaries and find them in the wild.

Adding armour ornaments.

Xur is going to start selling three of coins again and also a Fated Engram which will give you an exotic you don’t already have. Better emote interface. Will be changing the XP system. Their previous change to 160K XP is too slow.

Tencent has announced that they will be making a PUBG port for smartphones with Bluehole. This port is being released to China first and no word on releases outside of China or a release date.

Hideaki Itsuno has announced the existence of DMC5. These leaks come from someone on ResetEra. Devil May Cry 5 is going to continue the story where Devil May Cry 4 left off. A reveal trailer has been made for some time now and they are just waiting on a time to reveal it. The trailer is set to be released during a Playstation event/conference. Will have open spaces and action sections similar to Bayonetta. Estimated release date is April 2018 and March 2019.

ESRB Requires Ratings on Physical Indie Releases

The new rule itself requires games to obtain an ESRB rating before being published on Sony platforms. Previously, only games seeking a retail release had to receive an ESRB rating.

While digital games can be rated for free through the board's short form process, any title seeking a physical launch is now required to go through the long form rating process before being cleared for release. That means devs are required to pay a fee and submit details about the content of the game both through an online questionnaire and a physical DVD capturing "all pertinent content" for ESRB review

The new mandate introduces a valued tier for under $1 million production budget for being rated digitally but physical copies will require $3000

UK Government Investigating Lootboxes

Thanks to a law in the UK the government is in need to respond to a petition on petition.parliament.uk/ that has over 10K signatures.  

Activision Files Patent for Microtransaction-Minded Matchmaking

Described as "a system and method [...] that drives microtransactions in multiplayer video games," the patent outlines a system in which players are matched together in such a way that it encourages the purchase of in-game content

For example, this encourages matching good players or players with more weapons unlocked, with bad players to encourage bad players to spend extra to unlock certain items ahead of intention. 

Activision has reached out to IGN saying that they have filed this as an exploratory patent and has not been implemented in-game.

David Ballard Sexually Harassed Filed Complaint Then Fired After

David Ballard wrote out on Twitter participating in the #MeToo movement sharing his experience with sexual harassment.  

“In late 2015, I was sexually harassed at Naughty Dog by a lead,” Ballard wrote. “My work environment became extremely toxic afterward. In February 2016 I had a mental breakdown at work & Sony Playstation HR became involved. When I told them about the harassment they ended the call and fired me the next day. They cited the company was moving in a different direction and my job was no longer needed. They tried to silence me by offering $20,000 if I signed a letter agreeing to the termination as well as to not discuss it with anyone. I declined to sign. I have been unemployed for 17 months since.”

Naughty Dog and Sony sent out a joint statement wrote out a statement saying that harassment have no place within their company and do not have a record of the complaint.

Epic Games Sues Alleged Fornite Cheaters

Epic Games has made 2 individual civil complaints. They are being accused of been accused of copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement, breach of contract, and intentional interference with contractual relations. Epic Game’s complaint reads as follow: “The software that Defendant uses to cheat infringes Epic’s copyrights in the game and breaches the terms of the agreements to which Defendant agreed in order to have access to the game.”

EA Addresses Battlefront Loot Crates

Unlocking loot crates will yield Star Cards, Outfits, Emotes and Victory Poses. Star Cards are are items you can equip for a buff. EA is saying that the most powerful items won’t be in the crates and unlocked via achievements. Most of the cards and weapons will be accesses by playing and ranking up.

NISA Apologizes for Ys 8 Translation Promises to Apply Fixes in November

Ys 8 has been getting criticized for it’s awkward translations done by NISA for the first time. The usual translation team for the Ys games, XSEED was not hired on for Ys 8 translation. The Japanese press has been picking up stories on the “strange quality” of the localization. NIS America president Takura Yamashita has written an apology and assured that changes are coming soon. There will be a new translation with a new editor and patched in late November.

The Good Life FIG Fails

In a tweet SWERY reflects on the Fig campaign and shares more details on the crowdfunded project. He says he regretted not informing people on not sharing that the game will be developed by Yukio Futatsugi’s company (creator of Panzer Dragoon) and the art director for Rez Noboru Horita is on board too. SWERY says he will launch a Kickstarter for this and hopefully start it later this year.

Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

The Sonic film will be a blend of live action and CGI animation. Tim Miller is on board as executive producer and Paramout Pictures picked up the rights according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jeff Fowler will have his directorial debut with this film.

Steam Removes 200 Fake Games

BValve has removed 200 fake games from their catelog. Fake games in this sense is when a developer cobbles together a game by asset flipping using generic assets and renaming the games and selling them. They removed 173 games from two developers Silicon Echo Studios and Zonitron Productions. It turned out that it was the same person using different accounts to publish their games. Polygon reported an email that a representative sent to Valve saying they were given no warning and no opportunity to change their ways. The dev then reached out to Polygon that said they were doing shady practices for easier statistical tracking.

They have also said that have been driven out from being a developer because their reputation was destroyed and will quit the industry. This comes after Valve were explicit about making it hard for fake devs to succeed. They also nerfed their trading card system and update their algorithms to separate legit games/players from bots. Bots can have games running and sell these cards on the marketplace for money in Steam Wallets and buy games off the marketplace.

Sony Updates PSVR Headsets

This headset comes with a new breakout box that allows HDR to pass through the HDMI. This means you can still use HDR on your TV with the headset hooked up. The newer breakout box/processor is not compatible with older models.  This headset also includes headphones.

PUBG Hit With Negative Review Bomb

Chinese players are reporting they are receiving ads in PUBG for VPNs. Chinese players have been running into problems where they are experience lag-affected servers and are forced to join European and North American servers. The result is over 10,000 negative reviews have been written on their Steam page.

Spellbound (working title)

Next title from Chucklefish is still early and quite a ways off but it is internally being called Spellbound. This game will be a magic school RPG/life sim. Currently they mostly have the game world lore and characters planned out. They are taking inspiration from Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley and possibly 2D Zelda games. They will also be investigating romance options that are a little more dynamic than just straight forward gaining affection.

Nintendo Creators Program Updated User Guide

Nintendo has updated their creators program to exclude streaming on YouTube.

Atlus Issues DMCA to Patreon To Remove Patreon Page For PS3 Emulator

RPCS3 is the name of the PS3 emulator being made. They have put up a Patreon page asking for compensation on their work. Atlus’ claim is that the devs for the emulator is circumventing their DRM and making the game available on a platform not intended. Atlus acknowledged that the PS3 emulator is not infringing on their rights. Patreon did not agree with their request. The emulator team removed any mention of Persona 5 on their page.

“We don’t want their first experiences to be framerate drops, or crashes, or other issues that can crop up in emulation that we have not personally overseen."

Bluehole VP Chang Han Kim Concerned About Fortnite’s Battle Royale Mode

Epic Games has included a Battle Royale mode in their new game that shamelessly copies the mode from PUBG. In addition, they also include PUBG by name in their promotional materials and press releases.

PUBG uses the UE4 engine so they’ve had an ongoing relationship in some capacity before this.

Fortnite Bridges Gap Between PS4 and Xbox One

Xbox and PS4 players got to play together briefly. Epic Games has said there was a configuration issue and now it has been fixed. They have said they are in favour for it along with Microsoft while Sony has not been in support of cross play with other titles.

Switch Getting New Picross Game

New Picross game from Jupiter who made a load of them ever since Game Boy. The new game is called Picross S boasting 300 puzzles and be priced $8 released on September 28th. The game will include a local co-op play.

Steam Adding Review Graphs

Valve is hoping that the new review graph will help show potential purchasers the reviews in correspondence to the time the reviews were posted. The Switch Holds a Secret Tribute to Iwata

This isn’t entirely confirmed yet but the Switch supposedly has the code to the NES game Golf built-in to each console. In order to gain access to the NES emulator and game Golf a person will need to switch the time on their console to July 11th without ever connecting to the internet and make the gesture Iawta made in the Nintendo Directs.

The way they found out that Golf was built-into the Switch was that someone claimed they played it, someone else found the word flog in the Switch code, and the modder yellows8 found the emulator and game through memory access.
