Every now and then, an idea comes along that revolutionizes the world…this is not one of those ideas. In fact, it might be the worst idea we as a podcasting venture have ever come up with…but hey, it should at least be entertaining.
About a year ago, Ben and Tyler had the idea to cover every Monsterverse movie in the history of Godzilla’s brand, and now that Godzilla vs Kong has released and there’s no new movies on the horizon, they’ve shifted focus to a new endeavor…the DC Animated movies.
But alas, there are many movies along the way that they missed…the kind of movies that really no one SHOULD see, but still exist nonetheless. The kind of movies made by THE ASYLUM.
That’s right, for every Cloverfield, there is a Monster, and for every King Kong, there is a King of the Lost World. And soon, The Asylum will be releasing their next big “mockbuster”, as they’re affectionately branded: the aptly named Ape vs. Monster…arriving just a few weeks late to properly, pun intended, ape the newest blockbuster crossover.
To celebrate this occasion, and act as a spiritual successor to the Atomic Shot podcast, Justin and Tyler will be releasing a weekly show reviewing the library of low budget monster movies The Asylum has released over the past two decades, for those that haven’t had their fill of monster movie opinion podcasts, or that just appreciate when people rag on bad movies. When asked if Ben wanted to be on the show as well, he quickly shouted “fuck no!” and is possibly STILL laughing at them.
The name of this show, fittingly paying homage to both the podcast’s predecessor and the quality of titles on display…is Atomic Shart.
It doesn’t seem like anyone else has compiled a list of JUST the monster-themed movies from The Asylum, so this podcast idea required a bit of research and curation on our part. The full list of movies to be covered can be found in order below, along with their IMDB rating, in case for some crazy reason you also want to watch them each week before listening to the review. Please don’t, though…the point is that we watch them so you don’t have to.

• Monster (2008) – 2.1/10
• Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) – 2.5/10

Phew…seeing them all laid out like that, maybe this whole thing was a mistake? Let’s just canc- what’s that? The first episode is already recorded? Alright…sounds like it’s too late to back out.
Justin and Tyler will see you soon with a review of the first movie on the list – King of the Lost World. And if it’s any indication…they’ve got their work cut out for them. It’s ROUGH.
